Art and Artists

Details

Betty Mu's large-format video mapping on the American Building is a homage to the female art scene in Cincinnati's sister city, Munich. In a congenial mixture of real and abstract images, hypnotic effects and poetic sounds, Betty meets brilliant musicians, painters, photographers and AI artists. They all have one thing in common: they are female, exciting and from Munich. But their true home is art. No wonder that they feel at home all over the world.

Betty Mü grew up in Munich, Germany. In 1995 she moved to New York where she worked as an art director and took courses at New York University and the School of Visual Arts. She experimented with Super 8 and later started with video and live visuals. After 6 years she returned to Munich where she expanded her experience as a live visualist and started video installations. Today, Betty Mü is considered one of the most sought-after German media artists in the field of video art and live visualization and is known far beyond the borders of her country. Combining an imaginative, poetic style with clear installation concepts, she has worked for renowned clients such as BMW, SAP and Absolut Vodka, as well as for art projects in Germany, Italy, the USA and Mexico.

Hey Sister!
It’s time to showcase more female art in public.

Celebrating 12 brillant female artists from Munich, the sister city of Cincinnati.

From October 17th to 20th, 2024, Munich video artist Betty Mü will present her work "Hey Sister" at the BLINK Festival in Cincinnati (Ohio). Her large-format art projection on the 22-story American Building is a homage to the female artists in Cincinnati's sister city, Munich.

In a congenial collage of real and abstract images, hypnotic effects, and poetic sounds, Betty takes the viewer on a very personal journey through the female art scene of her Bavarian hometown. She draws attention to the fact that female art is still underrepresented around the world. For example, only about 13% of artists in American museums are women, despite some efforts by dedicated museums to change such imbalances.

In her projection, Betty meets brilliant musicians and actresses, conceptual artists and photographers, tattoo artists and graffiti artists, prima ballerinas and world-class violinists. They all have one in common: they are female, incredibly exciting, and come from Cincinnati's partner city, Munich. But the world of art, whose feminine side deserves to be recognised even more, is their true home.

The sound collage is composed by Dr. Esther Fee Reinhardt.

"Given the scale of their work, a 22-story skyscraper in the USA seems the most fitting canvas to showcase these twelve remarkable Munich artists."
