Desireé Moore, Robin Schwartzman, and Anna Abhau Elliott are artists working in a kaleidoscope of disciplines. The three of them met at an artist residency in 2015, in which Desiree wrote a screenplay, Anna started an improv troupe, and Robin designed a custom mini-golf course. In 2016, they officially collaborated for the first time, presenting COLD WARM UP, an interactive puzzle performance on a frozen lake in Minnesota. Out of this, eventually, came Barter Boat. The artists all live in different states (Missouri, Minnesota, and North Carolina) where they work as artists and educators in higher education.
